14k or 18k gold: which should you choose?
One is harder, one is richer. Both are solid gold.

The karat number tells you how much of the metal is pure gold. Pure gold is 24k, and it is too soft for jewellery that you wear, so it is mixed with other metals that make it stronger and set its colour.
| Karat | Pure gold | Feel | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14k | 58.5% | Harder, slightly paler | Pieces you wear every day |
| 18k | 75% | Softer, deeper colour | Pieces you want to feel richer |
Which one for earrings?
Earrings take far less knocking than rings, so both karats work well. Choose 14k if you sleep in your hoops or wear them every day. Choose 18k if you love a deeper yellow or a warmer rose.
Is it solid?
Yes. Both are solid gold all the way through, not plated. Every design at Hot Ice Jewels comes in 14k and 18k, in yellow, white and rose gold.
